Why Fact-Checking Matters for Christian Content

In Christian publishing, factual accuracy has profound stakes. A misquoted verse, a misattributed theological claim, or an out-of-context scripture can mislead readers spiritually and undermine their trust in the very Word of God.

We take this responsibility seriously. Our fact-checking process is built around three pillars: scriptural accuracy, theological integrity, and factual honesty.

Scripture Verification Process

Every Bible reference published on Daily Faith Notes goes through the following process:

  1. Primary lookup: The reference is located and read in full on Bible Gateway in the translation cited.
  2. Context check: The surrounding passage (minimum: the full chapter section) is read to confirm the verse is not being interpreted out of context.
  3. Multi-translation comparison: The reference is compared across at least three translations (ESV, NIV, KJV) using BibleHub to ensure the intended meaning is accurately represented.
  4. Commentary cross-reference: For theologically significant interpretations, we consult reputable commentaries or theological references such as Matthew Henry, the Reformation Study Bible, or GotQuestions.org.

Theological Claims

When we make a theological claim — for example, that a particular passage refers to physical healing, or that a biblical principle applies in a specific practical context — we ensure that claim is supported by the plain reading of the text and is consistent with mainstream evangelical interpretation.

We clearly distinguish between direct quotation and interpretive application. We do not present personal interpretation as established doctrine without stating the distinction.

Statistical and Historical Claims

When citing statistics (e.g., about prayer habits, health outcomes related to faith, or historical church data), we link to the primary source — a peer-reviewed study, a reputable news organization, or an official denominational body.

We do not cite statistics without a verifiable source. If a source becomes unavailable or is shown to be inaccurate, we remove or update the claim.

We will investigate the concern within 5 business days and, if confirmed, issue a correction promptly. Substantive corrections are noted within the article with a correction date and description of the change.
